Tee Lor Su Waterfall, Tak

Location : in Um Phang Wildilfe Sanctuary, approximately 42 km Um Phang town.

UM PHANG IS A DISTRICT WITH A GREAT PIECE OF LUSH FOREST that owns the 6th most beautiful waterfall of the world and the largest of Thailand, Tee Lor Su Waterfall.

TeeLor Su in Karen language means the black waterfall or the great, awesome waterfall. It proves to be the right name since this waterfall runs fiercely and is amazingly grand, especailly in rainy season. Originated from a stream called Huai Klo Tor, Tee Lor Su Waterfall is about 900m above average sea level. It is 500m wide and runs down in steps approximately 300m high. Surrounded by lush green forest level is a vast rocky ground where ones can relax and walk around, the secound level is a grand yellow limestone cliff covered with a curtain of water running down to the emerald green pond, whereas the third or the highest level is simply inaccessible for visitors due to the very strong current.

Tourists could not only watch the beauty of Tee Lor Su Waterfall from the front, but they can also trek to the beauty spot at another hill that is located right oppoisite to this fall. Although the path is prett steep, slippery, and exhausting, the reward is worth it. From this beauty spot, ones can clearly and fantastically see the whole Tee Lor Su Watherfall running down the towering cliff.

To visit the great Tee Lor Su Waterfall, you can either make it a one-day-trip and come back to spend the night at Um Phang town, or make a longer stay and spend the night in tent near the national park office. One thing you should bear in mind is, the road to this fall is very steep and winding. So if you are not a skilled driver and are not bringing a 4WD, it is a good idea to board a bus or buy a travel pachage in UM Phang town.

PHU CHI FA, Chiang Rai (The Beauty that Reaches the Clouds)

After the communsim has left Phu Chi Fa, the beauty of this unusal shaped mountain was then exposed to the travellers’s eyes. Medium have introduced this new tourists attraction to evetyone, and after seeing the photograph, many people indeed could not resist visiting this fantastic site.

What you will have to go through, however, is quite a long distance journey from Amphoe Muang, Chiang Rai, to Amphoe Thoang, the border district on the hill. Nevertheless, the road to the district is along the Khong River and thus gives a really impressive scenery.

When you reach Rome Fa Thong village, that means there is only another step to Doi Chi Fa. At this village, there are several small resorts where you can stay overnight. Every resort has a similar service to wake you up at 5.00 am., and bring you to the route to Phu Chi Fa.

The weather in the morning is very cold and the air is moist, you should dress in warm cloth and bringthe electric torce with you. The distance to the top is about 1 kilimetor. Once you are up there, you can see the ranges of mountain veiled in mist, and the rising sun on its way from the horizon. When the sun is fully up, you may either go back to the resort or wait to appreciate the senery in day light.

From the location of Phu Chi Fa, you can also go further for about 24 kilometers to Pha Thang, which means the upright cliff. From Pha Thang, you can see the Khong River and Lao very well. Moreover, in cold season, you can also withness is a really rare scenery in Thailand.

Doi Pha Thang and Phu Chi Fa, thus, are the twin attractions on the mountain that are very popular for travellers nowadays.

Boat Trip around the Reservoir Tourists who come in a big group ( 25 persons or more ) could charter the whole boat at the welcome building of the dam or at Phu Kaew Restaurant. For a smaller group, however, it will be more convenient to contact at Kheun Bhumibol Pier, which is public boat service of Ban Na sub-district.

Phra Buddha Bard Doi Kho Nam is located at the first reservoir, about 6km away from the front of the dam. The Phra Buddha Bard (meaning Buddha footprint ) is located onthe island and is a nice view spot of the lake.

Khao Khan Bet is a large rock mountain by the lake. The hill is interesting enough in is tale, but it is completely inaccessible on foot.

Phra That Kaeng Soi is located on the hill in the third part of the reservoir. The golden pagoda is recently reconstructed to replace the old one. It is believed that this area used to be the city Wang Soi, Which was the frontline of Harphunchai Kingdom some 800 years ago.

Doi Tao Market is the end of the boat trip where tourists could visit to shop for souvenir, fresh food, preserved food, as well as products from forest.

AT BHUMIBOL DAM

The King Celebratory Building Also located close to the special guesthouses and Phu Kaew restraurant, the building is constructed to extol the virtue of His Majesty the King in establishing the dam, and to give information and history of the dam to tourists.

The King Celebratory Park is localted on the right bank of Ping Rive, in the front of Bhumibol Dam. It was established in the occasion that the King has accessed to the throne for 50 years. The park is nicely decorated with flowers, and it also seves as a wonderful tent ground for tourists.

To Get There : From Bangkok, take highway 1 pass Ayudthaya, Angthong, Singburi, Chainat, and Uthai Thani until you reach Nakhon Sawan. Continue with highway 1 pass Kampaeng Phet to tak and head for Sam Ngao district. There you will find a lift turn to Bhumibol Dam. The distance from the mainroad to the dam is about 19 km.

Bhumibol Dam

Originally called Yanhi Dam, Bhumibol Dam was constructed in 24 June 1961 and finished in 1964. On May 17th 1964, His Majesty King Bhumibol presided over the dam opening ceremony and name it after his own name, Bhumibol Dam.

Bhumibol Dam is a very unique dam and the largest of its king in thailand.The Large concrete arch dam is 154m high, 486m long, and 6m wide. Its reservoir coves an area of 316 sq.km.,and the storage capacity is as great as 13,462 million cubic meters.

Buit from concrete and designed as a huge curve cutting across Ping River between Khao Kaew and Khao Yanhi.Bhumibol Dam is the fist all-purpose dam in Thailan. It produces most of Thailand’s hydro-eletric power and ranks the 8th inthe world of hydro-elecricity producing dams.

Apart from the vastness of the reservoir and its capabillty in producing electricity, Bhumibol Dam is also beneficial as a wonderful tourist attraction of the region. It is a perfect place to visit, stay, and enjoy natural settings as well as fun activities. In the area there are luxurious boat services, nature trails, lodgings, seminar rooms, and restaurants to accommodate and answer the need of all visitors.
